What is Babylon 5?
Babylon 5 is a television series chronicling events surrounding a space station of the same name. The station itself functions as a kind of interstellar United Nations, bringing different alien races together as a response to war. In spite of its peaceful aim, it and its crew become focal points in many wars.

Why do I love it?
This show was my first on screen introduction to real science fiction outside the utopian world of Star Trek or the Wild West Mythology of Star Wars. The narrative was fantasticly told. The characters were deep. The events were meaningful and had lasting impact on the universe. The main characters of the show were flawed. They wrestled with drugs and alcohol. They wrestled with a universe turning against them. Some of them died.
I also enjoyed the fact this was the first science fiction I had read or seen which didn't trample on religion and act like religion would somehow disappear in the future. It respected religion more than any other science fiction show I had seen before it.
